One For The Road… One For The Workplace! https://visionplusmag.com/uncategorized/region/global/one-for-the-road-one-for-the-workplace/ Fri, 26 Oct 2018 09:15:01 +0000 http://visionplusmag.fourplusmedia.com/?p=26976 Eyeglasses were considered nerdy… but that was a long time ago when eyewear was boring. With every celebrity (and of course everyone of us) using eyewear as an accessory like a tie or watch, it’s pretty interesting the way each different eyewear can make you look and feel. Here’s a lowdown on the options that’s out there for us to experiment with. Wear different eyewear for different occasions…

You wake up in your pyjamas and grab your bedside eyewear… then you choose the eyewear for your gym… then if you like to read your newspaper while having breakfast you have another pair… when you head to office, you grab your office eyewear… While you drive you use the one that helps you drive better… and for that evening out there’s a few eyewear that you need to choose from.

Well, I guess we don’t do this everyday… but for those of you who do and those of you who would love to, welcome to our world of the choicest eyewear for different occasions. There’s a lot out there to choose from… from designer labels to niche brands to special materials etc and you are only limited by your imagination to mix and match your outfit, occasion, mood and eyewear.

Here is a look at the various eyewear options for different occasions:

For that office meeting

A thoroughbred professional understands the importance of casting an impression with appearance itself. And this appearance includes eyewear as well. Office look calls for simple yet powerfully stylish. And the new model by Stepper clearly fits this bill. Known as the SI-30092, this model is feather light. The frame is made from TX5 and Titanium combination has significant weight and strength advantages over acetate plastic and monel metal alternatives. Need we say more about the frame’s durability. There are two colour options for this model: The warm brown for those who prefer to stick to the traditional colours for their office eyewear and the other is electric purple, an ideal choice for someone who likes to exhibit the bold style statement even while heading to work.

Even Silhouette has some excellent options in this category. For instance, the Silhouette Atelier Collection is an expression of passion and gracious living could make an interesting choice for the office look. Models in this collection stand out for their timelessness conveyed by precious materials and consummate craftsmanship.

For the outing with friends

When going out with friends, looking uber-cool is of course high on the priority list and eyewear can help with that. Bon Vivant’s Esmeralda and Roland models are excellent options in this category. Delivering the essence of European style with chic silhouettes, upscale acetate, and ornate detailing, these rarefied models typify the elegant aesthetic.

A delicate and glamorous combination frame, the Esmeralda has been made by hand from sleek stainless steel and high-quality translucent acetate. The slightly upswept silhouette of this cat-eye style imbues it with a touch of feminine flair.

Bon Vivant’s new Roland optical frame has been fastidiously crafted by hand from luxurious acetate in four classic colour options—including Antique Crystal, Black Horn, Moonlight Grey Fade, and Terra Brown Horn. With its robust soft-square silhouette, the Roland appeals to intellectual and creative types alike, inserting a tinge of sophistication to casual outfits.

For the males, Boss has some interesting models. The new sporty men’s sunglasses and optical frames in the brand’s Fall / Winter collection feature ultra-thin temples that are characterised by two carbon fiber layers for a light effect and feeling. The ultra-light structure and the rubber end-tips provide guaranteed comfort.

The sunglasses (0949/S) are available in colours that pair perfectly with the Acetate and Carbon from which the designs are crafted. The colour range features – matte blue with blue carbon temples and blue mirrored lenses (ADV) – matte black with black carbon temples and grey silver mirrored lenses – matte dark Havana with brown carbon temples and grey polar lenses.

From stylish simplicity to fancy floral, from modern geometrics to original patterns, there are so many ways to rock the trendiest styles by Dutz Eyewear this fall-winter season for that casual look. The variety in the collection reflects the season’s fashion and styles as well as the many moods of the customer.

For the happening party

Eyewear not being a part of the party look is a thing of the past. Today, there are some really interesting options in eyewear even when it comes to the party look.

For its, the new Calvin Klein 205W39NYC eyewear collection features architectural silhouettes rendered with sleek, metal details in bold colour combinations

The model is Raf Simons’ highly anticipated debut of Calvin Klein 205W39NYC eyewear, which uniquely highlights the new Chief Creative Officer’s artistic and curatorial perspective of the brand. These statement pieces are artfully conceived by combining delicate materials and finishes with negative space and colour blocking. Each of the unique new styles is designed in the company’s global headquarters at 205 W 39 Street in New York City and made in Italy.

Another excellent example is the new collection by Budri.  15 exclusive pieces from a unique marble quarry from the very land of Udaipur! Each frame is produced from a large slab of marble or a solid block, depending on the stone’s confirmation. Carefully selected and analysed with the aid of a sophisticated scanning system, the stone is then eroded to obtain a convex parallelepiped, from which the initial shape is extruded in a specific sequence of processes. A special fibre, patented and engineered by Budri, gives the front and temples greater strength and lighter weight.

The collection consists of five models, includes different surface finishes: ‘Brillante’ for glossy marble, ‘Seta’ for the matt version or ‘Tempo’ for a tactile allure – combined with small hardware in three shades: matt black, gold and silver. Clearly, Budri’s new offering comes with new designs and outstanding colour variants, ideal for the glamorous party look.

So, when it comes to eyewear, the number of options for every look is plenty. Investing a little effort can ensure that people find the perfect option to amplify the glamour quotient in their style statement. In the next edition, we will take you through some more interesting eyewear for different occasions. Till then, stay tuned!

Upgrade Your Specs Appeal! https://visionplusmag.com/trend/upgrade-specs-appeal/ Mon, 16 Jul 2018 11:44:04 +0000 http://visionplusmag.fourplusmedia.com/?p=26130 This edition, we’d like to dedicate our stylish feature to the stylish men. Gentlemen sunglasses, they call it. And these sunglasses are not just any piece of accessory, they are the accessory that make fashion headlines!

When the same piece of attire is not okay for all the occasions, why should one think that it is okay to have just one pair of sunglasses? However, some sunglasses are great multi-taskers. With the growing need of standing out, especially, amongst the youth, one must know there are a lot of stylish options to look forward to. Let’s face it, the ultra-technical, wrap around ones don’t go with everything. Do they?

It is time to mix-and-match and honestly, to go crazy!

And no, blindly choosing round sunglasses is not going crazy. There is a need to take an extra step and add that EXTRA element to your style statement. There is a need to go wild with the colours and unconventional with the shapes. Why should only girls have all the fun?

Well, it’s time men opened up to some experimentation in life when we talk about sunglasses. But with the guys, a word of caution, be careful because there is a thin line between being cool and being funny.

So here are our picks for the season that one must know about:

Cool shapes for cool people

First of all, the world should be thankful for geometrical shapes. Specifically designed for people with round faces, these styles are a blessing in disguise. Well, the designers thought it through, but we’d like to put it this way. Alongside an ability to add structure to orbicular heads, these overtly angular shades are very different from the standard shapes. Recently the stylist at Paul Higgins made a statement, “Geometric-shape shades – whether they are square or hexagonal – offer an easy way to differentiate yourself from the crowd. Because of their shape, subtlety is key, so be sure to choose thin frames and classic colours.”

We would like to think he is absolutely right in his choice

Sunglasses

The beauty of these unconventional and unusually shaped sunnies is that they are relatively smaller in size in comparison to other sunglasses. These allow your face to be the star!

Red, Yellow, And Everything Bright

If we go back in time, people never really liked the idea of bright sunglasses, because sunglasses are supposed to be sophisticated. Well, let that mental note take a hike. Sophistication is how one perceives it. And in the way the sunglasses are designed these days, colours are everything! So make sure to showcase options to your customers accordingly.

So go wild with your choices, and mind you, there is a colour for every season and no one is going to deny this in today’s eyewear fashion world. One can wear a rainbow in the eyes and no one will complain.

Aviators Are Changing

Aviators are changing and everyone should know. Your customer might wanna rethink before he buys a boring pair of sunglasses that (we won’t take the name) brands have been making since ages. There are shapes with edgy appearances and one must go gaga over them!Sunglasses

Key to avoiding the pitfall of rocking average aviators is seeking out plot twist design details. Suggest gold frames, coloured lenses or patterned acetate designs to ensure your customer knows what they need!

Welcome The Nineties But With A Twist

In the world of modern infrastructure to technology, an eyewear must also have an update. Yes! This simple logic is what has inspired designers’ work when they took the styles from the season of Elton John and created the new Nick Jonas!

The Backstreet boys are literally in the backseat, now. Your customer must very well know this when they head out to buy the ‘modern’ piece of eyewear. So it is safe to say that the ‘ Britpop era’ is back but with some salt in it.

Prada to Persol, all are looking for inspiration.Sunglasses

Raise The Bar With The Top Bar Shades

Let’s get one thing straight, the top bar sunglasses are not subtle, they are designed to stand out. For those customers who are going OTT (over the top) with their eyewear, there’s good news because this season has ushered in a new crop of designs which take down the frame width for a less startlingly obvious wear.

When combined with a thin metal top bar, the acetate frames end up making a very statement-worthy piece of accessory!

Sunglasses

Tip for the customer: if they have a broad face, don’t let them wear something too narrow in oval shape.

We’d also like to suggest one tip to the shopkeepers that they can employ while advising their customers: never choose a frame or sunglass that has the shape of your face. For instance, if you have a round face, choose a square sunglass.

“It is great to see people opening up to newer designs and experimenting with eyewear styles. While internationally, people have realised the charm of eyewear as a style statement. In India, it still is a rare sight for someone to go over the top with this accessory,” says Gulzaar Shah, Associate Editor, VisionPlus Magazine.

Brands Which Are Going OTT

Wiley X

Wiley X’s model WX Hayden features a more squared off lens shape and accommodates  two purposes: smart appearance and superior vision. The polarized model provides wearers with advanced glare-cutting performance and distraction-free vision when worn even in water, during snow, on highways, and other highly reflective environments.

WX Hayden

Polaroid

Polaroid is one brand that goes OTT and owns it. They have recently launched the new PLD 6045/S acetate model featuring a rectangular shape that comes in three colours – white, black, and red. The front bears the original wording ‘press’, which indicated where on the frame one needed to apply pressure to attach the clip-on to the glasses.

PLD6045SX

The PLD 6048/S and PLD 6049/S metal sunglasses are a contemporary take on clip-on. The first features a pilot shape, while the latter a squared design, but they both bear the original ‘press’ detail on the lenses and metal hook on the front.

Also, another hit from the brand is this particular square model with a contemporary twist, combining pop colours with polarized cosmetic lenses. This model PLD 6050/s offers the wearer superior protection from UV rays and the opportunity to enjoy a true ‘instant experience’.

Calvin Klein

Calvin Klein: A Class Apart https://visionplusmag.com/trend/calvin-klein-a-class-apart/ Fri, 10 Apr 2015 03:24:28 +0000 http://visionplusmag.fourplusmedia.com/?p=15989 Calvin Klein, the doyen of high fashion, has ruled the business for over forty years. Tight-fitting jeans, ‘Calvins’ underwear, perfumes like Obsession and CK One, and of course, stylish and elegant eyewear. A profile of the man and the brand

Calvin Klein
Calvin Klein stands proud with its impeccable range of fashion wear and accessories

Designer wear to designer sunglasses. Not a quantum leap; just the smartest thing to do for a brand that wants to seamlessly entwine itself into a customer’s life and use its credibility quotient to the fullest. In a space where labels are brandished about with dexterity, Calvin Klein stands proud with its impeccable range of fashion wear and accessories. The luxury house dispenses a wide-ranged array. Fashion wear for men and women, jeans, underwear, fragrances, jewellery, watches and eyewear. The highpoints of Calvin Klein design include the tight-fitting jeans, Calvins–the must-have designer underwear, Obsession, Escape, Eternity, CK One and CK Be–perfumes to die for, and eyewear that underline his style–neat, clean and elegant.

Neat, clean lines with no fuss have been Calvin Klein’s nomenclature. Very early in his designing career he had been asked just what made him like such simple lines for women and he had responded, “I have never been one to see women in ruffles and all kinds of fanciful apparels. To me, it’s just silly.” And this aversion to ‘silliness’ is probably what makes his brand one of the most sought-after and Calvin Klein, 72, revered.

Calvin Klein Collection Women
Neat, clean lines with no fuss have been Calvin Klein’s nomenclature

A New York boy, Calvin Klein, born on November 19, 1942, to Hungarian Jewish parents, was interested in art and design from a very young age. After matriculating from the High School of Art and Design, he joined New York’s Fashion Institute of Technology, but quit mid-way. Instead, at 20, in 1962, he joined a cloak and suit manufacturer and spent the next five years designing at various clothing stores. In 1968, he teamed up with his childhood friend, Barry Schwartz and launched Calvin Klein Inc.

In 1974, he designed the first tight-fitting jeans that became his signature style and went on to rake in $200,000 in its first week of sales. He became the first designer to get an award for outstanding design in men’s and women’s wear in the same year. As the years went by, awards came aplenty and recognition soon took the shape of a brand to reckon with.

Calvin Klein has dominated the American fashion scene for nearly forty years. Equally known for his saucy and cheeky advertising as he is for his simple no-nonsense design, the initials CK have come to symbolise a validation of class, style and a benchmark for aspiring designers and yes, models too.

Calvin Klein Collection Male
In 1996, Calvin Klein was named as one of the ‘25 Most Influential Americans’ by TIME magazine

Kate Moss, Toni Garm, Natalia Vodianova, Eva Mendes, Doutzen Kroes, Alessandra Ambrosio and Lara Stone are some of the models who have benefited hugely from being connected to the CK brand. Ad campaigns featuring Mark Wahlberg and Antonio Sabato Jr. have worked wonders for their careers too. Of course it all started when he had taken the 14-year-old Brooke Shields in an ad, sparking off a huge debate on the ‘correctness’ of casting such a young girl. But more the controversy, the better CK jeans sold in the market. His provocative advertisement, “You want to know what comes between me and my Calvins? Nothing.”, made Calvin’s branded jeans a craze amongst the young and sales hit 40,000 pairs a week. The latest model whose body and face marks the success of the brand is Zoe Saldana, who was taken on to be the face of its underwear line, Underwear Envy. He is the designer of choice for celebs like Julia Roberts, Gwyneth Paltrow and Helen Hunt.

In 1996, he was named as one of the ‘25 Most Influential Americans’ by TIME magazine. He is also a three-time Coty American Fashion Critics Award-winner and a past recipient of the Council of Fashion Designers of America’s Lifetime Achievement Award. In 2003 he got an honorary doctorate from Fashion Institute of Technology, the very place from where he had quit mid-way.

On the personal front, he has been married twice and has a daughter, Marci. After his divorce from his second wife, he remained single.

Strangely enough, for the man who advocated trends by just setting them, he washed his hands off fashion trends some fifteen years back, saying, “They are over fast. As soon as you see them, as soon as you see people wearing them, they are over.”

In 2002, Calvin Klein sold the business to American shirt company Phillips-Van Heusen for $400 million, with another $30 million in stock, and up to $300 million in royalties that was linked to revenues for the next 15 years. Since then, he has switched over to the position of Consulting Creative Director.

For the last few seasons, it has been imprinting its presence in all designer eyewear. The current denim collections of the leading eyewear brands prove that it’s here to stay

The magic of denim remains unbeatable even decades after it was first discovered. From the traditional blue jeans, denim has taken several quantum leaps into the future carrying with it innovative textures, finishes and colours. Vibrant, smoky or moody, denim has always aligned itself with the rebellious. Every time it makes a fashion statement, it does so unapologetically, and sometimes a little cheekily too. Of late, denim has slipped into the eyewear business with major fashion and design houses adapting this remarkable fabric and integrating it with frames of both eyeglasses and sunglasses. What’s more, an effort is also being made to research various methods through which denim can be integrated into eyewear to make it not just attractive, but also more durable. Here, we present some of the key players in the eyewear business and showcase a few of their latest designs featuring either denim or a denim-like pattern.

While denim and acetate are two very diverse materials, when original Diesel denim is treated and melded into the acetate through a cold welding process, they unify to create dynamism. The design reflects the strong personality of the brand.

Like the tiger, model DL0111 also likes its stripes. It’s regal and classy. There are various colours that one could opt for. But the hot favourite is dark denim with light grey stripes that’s paired with transparent brown acetate, while black acetate becomes the obvious choice for light striped denim. In the square shaped DL0140, denim becomes the perfect canvas for accidental drops of coloured paint that make each piece absolutely unique and different from the others.

Diesel’s #DENIMEYE optical collection is also hugely popular, comprising models DL5116 and DL5117. The new his and hers eyeglasses collection with its rectangular or rounded shapes looks really smart, available as it is in shades of black, Havana, blue and purple. Of course, the highlight in the eyeglass section is once again the denim that has been melded into the acetate. Here, light denim has been matched with black acetate, navy denim with Havana, black denim with vintage Havana, while the striking green camouflage has been paired with black again. In true Diesel form, it brings upfront the modern and unconventional spirit of the brand.

Tommy Hilfiger
A brand that has come to embody the all-American spirit. Needless to add, this extends itself to not just fashion, but every product that it associates itself with. Eyeglasses and sunglasses too. Tommy Hilfiger eyewear is known for its unmatched style and ability to keep abreast with the latest fashion trends. Denim is the newest bunny in the eyewear industry. And Tommy Hilfiger has some of the best designs showcasing its prowess.

For instance, model TH 1287/S G15LL from the Fall/Winter 2014 collection. With its retro-inspired rounded shape, it is a classic throwback to an earlier time. The bold, statement making frame is offset by the softer colours in which it is made. Grey/black, crystal/Havana blue and transparent mud/military green are some of the colours in which it is available. This ‘soft’ approach is also visible in the front of the frame where a soft key-bridge and a brushed denim effect nicely complements the loud retro look. Typically Hilfiger. Stylish, energised, youthful and irreverent.

Swing Eyewear
Swing Eyewear takes eye concern a step forward. The eyeglasses made by Swing Eyewear use the same ingredient that is used for the production of baby bottles and nozzles. Called TR 90 Natural, doctors and researchers worldwide are recommending this material for its usage in glasses. Model SS101JNS-05 from Swing epitomises its belief in combining style with a classic form. A shaded denim effect in an azure blue forms the mainstay of this frame that is complemented by the grey-blue lenses. Pure magic.

Calvin Klein Jeans
Calvin Klein Jeans, a brand rooted in denim that is famous for its unique details and innovative treatments, has introduced new sunglass designs that showcase the latest in denim and youthful fashion street styling. The brand’s eyewear featuring a denim pattern takes into account the style and pizzazz for which Klein design is world-acclaimed. But it also integrates a certain minimalism to its design structure, adding sleekness to the already sleek designs. Bold proportions and trendy colours enhance the look of the designs. Model CKJ758S is an aviator style, but has an integration of denim that has been done really smartly. At the front and at the temples, it combines with the flashy blue lenses and its own metallic logo and elevates its design quotient to another level altogether. On the other hand, model CKJ759S has a rectangular shape with the denim pattern prominent on the front and at the temples. Both incidentally are unisex styles.

Ray-Ban
One of the most popular brands worldwide, Ray-Ban understands the impact it has made on eyeglass wearers across the globe and to pander to this huge market, it has one of the most enviable collections in eyewear. What’s more, the brand adds to it every year with a special range that manages to tweak the design element a bit further. Currently, Ray-Ban is using some new materials like printed velvet and denim and the results are pretty awesome. The Wayfarer range has always been iconic. But this time, and it’s for the first time in its history that, Wayfarers are being offered in an original denim version produced through a high-tech process that has been developed by Ray-Ban. A 100 per cent ultra-strong denim along with a coating of polypropylene layers is being used for the frames of model RB 2140. The two materials are combined through an accurate layering process carried out at temperatures reaching 200°C to achieve perfect adhesion. The eyewear, therefore, carries the rebellious look of hand-finished jeans. Available in classic denim blue, of course, but the real happy aspect of this range is that it is also available in a variety of new colours – black, light blue, rust, green and purple. Awesome? You bet.

X-IDE
While eyewear brands are trying to bridge the gender divide and often offering unisex designs, here is a company that is deliberately attempting to create its own niche by creating all-male denim eyewear. Eyewear that has been created exclusively for men. And mind you, not just any man, but one with a strong, macho personality. Cocco has a metal frame with denim at the front and at the temples. An attention grabber, it reeks of a craftsmanship that has always been an inherent part of this range. Showcased at MIDO 2015, there were many takers for this smart design.

Levi’s
With its Core Fall/Winter 2014 optical collection, Levi’s proves that denim remains in style, always. The temples of the frames have real denim details. The angular eye frame of model LS06326 has contoured rubber temples with a denim front stamped with the iconic Levi’s® Housemark logo in metal. The denim inspiration stands out clearest in the stitch-inspired temples of models LS06330 and LS06331. The metal temple of LS06330 has a row of cut-out ‘stitches’ running alongside it. These stitches draw inspiration from the brand’s famous blue jean seams, each following a lasered Levi’s® Housemark logo and ending in vividly patterned acetate end-tips. LS06331 has an elongated eye shape, highlighted by a palette of solid colours.

With the variety of textures, finishes and colours on offer, this sure looks like a trend that will never go out of fashion!
