Opening Eyes is one of seven Special Olympics Healthy Athletes screenings that was offered at the USA Games. The screenings offer athletes free vision and eye health screenings on-site and, if necessary, prescription eyewear and sports goggles to improve the vision of the athletes on the playing field and beyond, according to a recent announcement.

In addition, all ECPs and optometry students who screened athletes at the USA Games received a clinical training to better understand how to meet the unique needs of people with intellectual disabilities—not only at the USA Games, but back home at their optometry practices.

“Our participation at the 2022 Special Olympics USA Games was a truly meaningful way to see this partnership come to life. The original Barton Perreira x 007 collaboration features three sunglasses worn by the principal characters in the film.

Series 2 of the BP x 007 collaboration adds four new colours of the existing Joe sunglass – a polished classic rectangular style frame — inspired by four locations in the new No Time To Die film including Matera, Italy; Port Antonio, Jamaica; Hakadal, Norway; and the El Nido bar scene based on Havana, Cuba.

All made with Japanese acetate, the new Joe sun frames are available in:
● El Nido/Old English Polarized – a deep ombre brown hue with dark brown polarized lenses similar to the misty night scene set at Havana’s El Nido Bar
● Port Antonio/Safari Polarized – a champagne sand coloured frame with dark green polarized lenses mimicking the white sandy beaches surrounded by the plush green jungle of Port Antonio, Jamaica
● Hakadal/Noir – a translucent blue frame with dark lenses reminiscent of the cold icy landscape in Hakadal, Norway
● Matera/Green Smoke – a greyish stone tortoise frame with green lenses that mirror the colours of the hillside village of Matera, Italy


Series 2 of the BP x 007 collection will come with a custom branded 007 sunglass case and cleaning cloth. The El Nido and Port Antonio polarized frames are priced at 425 euro and the Hakadal and Matera sunglasses are 380 euro.

Series 2 of the BP x 007 collection is already available for presale at 007store.com and will be available for purchase on BartonPerreira.com, and in all Barton Perreira stores and authorized retailers worldwide starting May 5.

No Time To Die will be released globally from September 30, 2021 in the United Kingdom through Universal Pictures International and in the United States on October 8, from Metro Goldwyn Mayer Studios via their United Artists Releasing banner.

This is exactly the feeling the two Austrian brands wanted to capture.

“It was also important to create a connection between the eyewear and the collection: the key piece is the beach towel, where the lens shapes of the two sunglasses were the inspiration for the design. The organic shapes of the towel contrast with the striped look used on the oversized beach bag, bathrobe and shirt. The terry bathrobe and shirt both feature a lapel collar and are made of intricately woven fabric in a double face look. The collection is completed with a bucket hat and a matching glasses case, also made of terry cloth.” states the press release from the company.

The two sunglasses are named LINDA (port. “the beautiful”) and AMADO (port. “the beloved”) and each comes in two colours. LINDA is a feminine reinterpretation of a geometric cat-eye shape, AMADO an angular oversized frame. Similar to stones polished round by wind and water over time, the designs play with completely rounded corners and details on the front and temples. The colours are inspired by the coast of Portugal: a light blue Havana, an exclusive in-house creation by ANDY WOLF, stands for the sea. Symbolic of the rising sun is the second version in red-brown Havana, in which the two-tone lens does not run vertically as usual, but horizontally from brown to light blue.

The glasses are limited to 300 pieces per colour and style worldwide. Each pair of glasses is available in a case and towel set. Both companies stand for sustainability and local production, so it was especially important that the glasses and towels are 100% made in Austria.

In order to also meet the social responsibility for people and nature, both labels decided to start a special upcycling project. Towles in yellow and brown get a 2nd chance and are reworked by the institution “Jugend am Werk” to stylish scrunchies. This is how the 90s come back to life!
