Alabama High School Golf Championships: Vestavia Hills Dominates Boys' Competition, Alabama Christian's Julie Waldo Wins Girls' Title
The Alabama High School Athletic Association (AHSAA) State Golf Championships took place across three venues in Alabama, with Vestavia Hills dominating the boys' competition and Alabama Christian's Julie Waldo claiming the girls' title.
Boys' Competition
Vestavia Hills secured its second consecutive and seventh overall Class 7A state title at the 78th AHSAA State Golf Championships. The Rebels' team total of 6-under par 282 in the final round was enough to beat rival Hoover by 19 shots. Clarke Brown of Vestavia Hills claimed low medalist honors with a 5-under 67, while Henry Brown of UMS-Wright finished second with a 69.
In the Class 6A boys' competition, Mountain Brook won its first state championship since 2022 and 11th overall with a two-day 514 score, 32 strokes under par. Homewood finished second, and Spain Park took fourth place.
Scottsboro secured the Class 5A state crown with a 313-327 total at Glencoe's RTJ Silver Lakes Golf Course. Bayside Academy finished second, and Guntersville took third place.
Brooks High School ended Haleyville's four-year winning streak in the Class 4A boys' competition with a 313-324 total to claim the 4A state championship. American Christian finished second, Houston Academy took third, and Haleyville came in fourth.
Montgomery Academy won the Class 3A team state title at the RTJ Highland Oaks Course, with Boone Thigpen claiming low medalist honors. Montgomery Academy finished with a strong 625 team score.
In the Class 1A/2A boys' competition, Lindsay Lane claimed the state title with a 308-316 total. Elba finished second, Mars Hill Bible took third, and Sumiton Christian came in fourth.
Girls' Competition
On the girls' side, Alabama Christian's Julie Waldo won her third straight championship with a two-day 67-69 total at Dothan's Highland Oaks. Waldo tied Saxon Skinner of Tuscaloosa Academy and Frances Brown of UMS-Wright for the third-best 36-hole score in AHSAA tournament history.
Grissom secured the Class 7A state title with a 228 team score, and Klare Jamison of Grissom claimed low medalist honors. Hewitt-Trussville's Merritt Daniel finished second.
Spanish Fort claimed the Class 6A crown with a 444 total, led by Sara Carter-Hare, who fired back-to-back rounds of 69 to claim low medalist honors. Pike Road finished second, and Mountain Brook took third place.
West Point's Brooklyn Sutter finished the championships at Glencoe's RTJ Silver Lakes Golf Course with a 3-over 75 to lead her school to the state title. West Point had identical rounds of 241 to finish the tourney with a 482 total, two strokes ahead of defending state champion Tuscaloosa Academy.
Pike Liberal Arts of Troy claimed the Class 1A/3A title for the first time in school history with a 284 finish and a two-day total of 577. Altamont finished second, and Cottage Hill's Allyson Bell finished second to Waldo in the individual competition.
In summary, Vestavia Hills and Alabama Christian's Julie Waldo dominated the boys' and girls' competitions, respectively, while other schools also claimed state titles in their respective classes.
