An extensive search for mountain lions was launched, involving various agencies and experts. Two mountain lions were located and euthanized, in line with Colorado Parks and Wildlife's policy to ensure public safety after attacks on humans.

Mountain lion attacks in Colorado are considered rare, with only 28 reported to the agency since 1990. The last fatal attack occurred 27 years ago, a stark reminder of the potential dangers in remote, heavily wooded areas like Crosier Mountain.
