Guilherme Makes a Stellar MLS Debut for Houston Dynamo
Could Houston Dynamo FC have uncovered their next standout talent? Guilherme certainly suggested as much during MLS is Back weekend. The Brazilian winger, a marquee Designated Player acquisition from Santos FC ahead of the 2026 MLS season, found the back of the net twice in his Dynamo debut, driving a 2-1 comeback victory over Chicago Fire FC on Matchday 1.
A headline offseason signing for Houston, Guilherme instantly lit up Shell Energy Stadium, scoring in quick succession at 67 and 78 minutes to overturn Hugo Cuypers’ opener for the visitors.
“This is a player who has been competing at a very high level in a serious league against top-tier opponents for a long time,” Dynamo head coach Ben Olsen remarked after the game, lauding the veteran attacker.
The 30-year-old forward isn’t new to such success. He earned the 2025 Campeonato Paulista Golden Boot with Santos (10 goals) and played a pivotal role in helping the storied club—beloved by Brazilian icon Pelé—avoid relegation in the 2025 Campeonato Brasileiro after a 2024 promotion.
Guilherme’s breakout didn’t go unnoticed. Superstar Neymar publicly saluted him on social media with a heartfelt goodbye post before the move to MLS, highlighting the high regard in which he’s held.
Now Dynamo supporters are getting their first real look at what Guilherme can contribute on a regular basis.
Olsen added, “You can see the quality he brings, both in and around the box and in the final third, and I’m hopeful there’s more of that to come. He’s a joy to watch and he’s grinding hard every minute.”
