Join the Kulwicki Driver Development Program for 2026 - Applications Now Open! (2026)

Ready to witness the rise of future racing legends? The Kulwicki Driver Development Program is now accepting applications for its 2026 season, offering a golden opportunity for aspiring short-track stock car drivers across North America. This program isn't just about racing; it's a heartfelt tribute to the legacy of Alan Kulwicki, the 1992 NASCAR Cup champion and NASCAR Hall of Fame inductee. This initiative aims to nurture talent and keep Kulwicki's spirit alive.

Mark your calendars! The application window closes on January 23, 2026, at midnight ET.

Five exceptional drivers will be chosen to compete for the prestigious 2026 Kulwicki Cup. These drivers, affectionately known as “Underbirds” – a nod to Kulwicki’s iconic 1992 championship-winning Ford, also called the Underbird – will be evaluated on a range of criteria. This includes their on-track performance, their involvement in community service, their ability to promote the program, their engagement with fans, and their dedication to preserving Alan Kulwicki’s story. Adding a layer of mentorship, the finalists will have the invaluable guidance of crew members from Kulwicki’s 1992 Cup championship team.

Here's where it gets interesting: Unlike many development programs, the Kulwicki Driver Development Program financially supports its participants. Each driver receives financial assistance, along with goods and services, totaling an impressive $7,000. Furthermore, drivers will benefit from specialized training sessions throughout the season, focusing on fitness, media presentation, and social media skills – crucial for taking their careers to the next level. The competition culminates with the five finalists vying for a share of $30,000 in money, goods, and services, distributed among the top three finishers. Each selected driver is required to participate in a minimum of 14 races, ensuring a season packed with action and growth.

Who can apply? The program is looking for drivers with experience in asphalt Late Model, Pro Late Model, or Super Late Model stock cars, or similar racing styles.

But here's where it gets controversial... Drivers who have competed or plan to compete in 2026 in NASCAR’s three national touring series (Cup, O’Reilly Auto Parts, and Craftsman Truck), NASCAR’s Canadian and Mexico series, and ARCA’s three Menards Series (national, East, and West) are not eligible. While there is no age limit, the program tends to favor candidates between the ages of 16 and 25.
