Hold onto your pilgrim hats, horror fans! The highly anticipated sequel Thanksgiving 2 is facing a slight delay, but don't worry, it's not canceled! Director Eli Roth is still very much on board, and here's what we know.
The original plan, announced just weeks after the first Thanksgiving film premiered in 2023, was to have the sequel ready for the holiday season in 2025. However, scheduling conflicts have put a temporary hold on production. These issues include commitments from actors like Addison Rae and Milo Manheim, who recently signed on for the live-action remake of Tangled.
Despite these setbacks, Roth remains optimistic. He told Variety that "Everybody wants to do it." He's determined to make it happen, planning to find a time when everyone's schedules align. The goal is to "go back for a few weeks and have fun."
Roth will be returning to direct the sequel, co-writing the script with Jeff Rendell. We can also expect to see Nell Verlaque and Rick Hoffman reprising their roles, alongside Rae and Manheim.
But here's where it gets controversial... Roth has teased that the sequel will "up the ante" without increasing the budget. He aims to make the kills even more spectacular, approaching the project as if it were his last film. This approach suggests a commitment to pushing creative boundaries.
For those unfamiliar, Thanksgiving is a horror film set in Plymouth, Massachusetts, where a Black Friday riot turns deadly, and a mysterious killer, inspired by the holiday, begins a series of revenge killings. The plot thickens as these seemingly random acts are revealed to be part of a larger, sinister plan.
While we await Thanksgiving 2, Roth is keeping busy with other projects under his Horror Section Studios banner. These include Ice Cream Man and Don’t Go in That House, Bitch!, with Snoop Dogg. He's also developing a Hostel TV series for Peacock.
